Health from lettuces

Lettuces are different in shape and taste. In our country you can find a wide variety of lettuce. It’s more than indicated not to choose lettuces that have thin, emaciated or brownish leaves. Surely they don’t have any taste. In order to choose a fresh lettuce, you have to bear in mind the nice color and the firm, healthy leaves.
There are some things you have to know when preparing a lettuce salad.
For preparing a good lettuce salad you don’t need to choose too many ingredients. It’s okay if you add three lettuces and make a consistent bowl of salad.
The key to a delicious lettuce salad is adding different vegetables in it. We suggest you try using cucumbers, tomatoes, radishes, carrots, beets, peppers, cabbage, corn, onion, olives, celery or avocado.
For replacing the proteins the lettuce doesn’t have, it’s actually indicated we add ingredients as chicken, turkey, beef, pastrami, ham, tuna or boiled eggs.
Many different mixes can be made. It’s important you use your imagination every time you prepare a lettuce salad or any type of salad in fact.
Health from lettuce salads
Lettuces contain very few calories and over 90% water. At the same time they have a big number of vitamins and minerals, essential for the body’s well functioning.
Vitamins A, C, potassium or iron from lettuces keep many diseases away from us.
If you excessively use seeds or nuts in your salads, keep in mind that they have many calories, and the result you get won’t be the one you’re expecting.
Also pay attention when using ingredients as cheese, smoked ham or roasted chicken, which if excessively consumed increase the blood cholesterol level because they have many saturated fats.
Tip: Try eating different types of lettuces with dark green leaves, because they have 50% more beta carotene than the ones that have light colored leaves.
No salad without dressing
Any salad tastes better if served with a proper dressing.
In Southern Europe, the most used salad dressing is the vinaigrette while in Eastern Europe sauces based on mayonnaise are used.
Even when preparing a salad dressing the mixes can be unlimited, according to your taste and may contain from honey or mustard to blue cheese or even garlic sauce.
The main ingredient that shouldn’t be missing from a salad dressing is “the liquid gold”, and that’s olive oil.
