What is Huevos Rancheros Recipes and How to Make it?
Huevos rancheros or also known as rancher’s eggs is a traditional Mexican breakfast made of corn tortillas, black beans and fried eggs which is further topped with plenty of warmed salsa and sour cream. This recipe for this dish very flexible as you can use either canned salsa for this recipe or add some chopped tomatoes and pickled jalapenos to make the salsa sauce. Although Huevos Rancheros Recipe is suitable for breakfast, it is so satisfying and delicious that it can be consumed as any meal of the day. It is very quick and easy to make and is full of healthy protein and nutrients. There are many variations to this recipe including the use of Mexican rice, avocado, enchilada sauce in the recipe while making it more delicious and more popular.
Tips to make Huevos Rancheros
- You can also use pico de gallo in the recipe in the place of cilantro and avocado slices.
- Make sure to use gluten-free corn tortillas.
- In case you are using black beans, ensure to drain and warm in the skillet or pan, you can add 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin, salt and pepper as per your taste and mash it slightly before adding on tortillas.
Take a small skillet and add 1 tbsp of oil in it. Heat tortillas individually in this skillet and flip as necessary. Transfer these heated tortillas carefully on a paper towels or separate plates. You can also place the tortillas in a preheated oven to keep warm settings. Keep it aside.
In the same skillet heat 1 tbsp of oil again and wait until the oil starts simmering. Break the egg carefully and pour it into the skillet. Make sure not to break the yolk. Fry the egg by tilting and lifting the skillet until whites are set and eggs are done as per your preference. Later transfer the fried egg on the baking sheet and place it in the oven. Repeat the same process with remaining eggs.
Place each warmed tortilla on an individual plate and spread a layer of salsa and refried beans over each tortilla. Place carefully the fried eggs on each prepared tortillas and add 1/4 cup of salsa while leaving the yolk part exposed. Spoon 2 tbsp of sour cream and garnish it further with shredded cheese, chopped cilantro, and avocado slices. Repeat the same process on each tortilla and serve it hot.
