Blood Type Diet

Contents
The Blood Type Diet became popular once Peter D’Adamo’s book “Eat Right 4 Your Type” / “Nutrition Right for Your Type” came out, and even nowadays it’s considered being a bestseller in reference literature. According to Dr D’Adamo, The Blood Type Diet helps lose weight, prevents allergy apparition, increases resistance to infections and ameliorates the general health state.
Blood Type Characteristics
Each blood type has a set of characteristics which influence the diet: stress resistance, predisposal to certain diseases, personality etc. Dr Peter D’Adamo sustains that this set of characteristics is part of our genetic heritage and is set by lectins. Lectins are proteins found in food and which have agglutination properties, leading to blood level modifications. Thus at the moment, one eats food containing lectins incompatible with the antigens of the blood type, these affect a certain organ or a body system and start agglutinating the blood cells from that respective area, leading to the apparition of certain injuries.
Fortunately, most food lectins aren’t as damaging as to endanger one’s life, and in most of the cases, our own immune system guards us against the negative action of lectins. Thus in 95% of the cases, the lectin amount introduced into the human body is absorbed and then eliminated, while in the remaining cases, lectins infiltrate into the blood flow and can cause diverse reactions at the organ level.
The blood type is defined as being a blood classification based on the red blood cell and on the blood plasma characteristic ensemble; more precisely the blood type represents the natural restructuring of the genetic content. Having in mind the close connection between blood and man’s genetic construction, Peter D’Adamo sustains that blood types influence nutrition, mental health and the functioning of some body systems.
In his book, Dr D’Adamo encourages the consumption of fresh and organic food, this being benefit for everybody, no matter the blood type. Nevertheless, there are researchers that sustain that the studies on which this diet is based on are arguable, because there’s the situation in which we have two people of the same blood type, but with different metabolisms, and thus one can be sensitive to carbohydrates and sugar while the other needs a rich carbohydrate diet. They also sustain that weight loss and health maintenance in normal limits are possible by adopting a healthy and balanced diet.
Blood types indicate the evolution of our ancestors – according to what they ate, as follows:
O Blood Type Diet Plan : The hunters used to eat food that’s hard to digest, with a high content of animal originated proteins;
A Blood Type Diet Plan : The farmers used to eating many vegetables;
B Blood Type Diet Plan: The omnivore people used to eat dairy as well as meat or vegetables;
AB Blood Type Diet Plan: The people that have characteristics taken over from A-2 and B-3 blood types.

O Blood Type
People with O blood type grow harmoniously by practising physical exercise, consuming animal originated proteins (being able to easily digest meat because of the increased acidity of gastric acid), by avoiding dairy products and carbohydrates. Because of the gastric acidity, these people should eat more fruit with alkaline acidity (plums, grapes, gooseberries, barberries, dates) and try avoiding as much as possible the consumption of dairy and cereal.
Advice!
The consumption of vitamin K rich vegetables is recommended because they strengthen the coagulating factor which is very weak among people having O blood type.
Losing weight is based on limiting cereal consumption as well as bread and vegetables (especially beans).
Factors that lead to weight gain:
The gluten from wheat germs – it interferes with insulin activity and leads to a metabolic rate decrease;
Naturally, these people tend to have a low thyroidal hormone level and so the thyroidal function is unstable and causes metabolic imbalance. Avoiding food that inhibits the thyroidal function (cabbage, cauliflower, green mustard, Brussels sprouts) is recommended, as well as eating food that accelerates hormonal production (seafood, iodized salt etc.).
Prohibited food: Brazilian nuts, oranges and avocado, alcohol and especially caffeine increase adrenalin and noradrenalin levels – already high among people that have O blood type.
Physical exercise:
– these people are resistant to soliciting physical exercises;
– the following types of exercises are recommended: aerobics, jogging, gymnastics and contact sports.
Possible diseases: asthma, allergic rhinitis and other types of allergies, arthritis, alimentary intolerance.
