In this article we wish to present you some of the strangest foods from different places around the world. Even though there are many freaky foods, one more disgusting and uncommon than the other, we have chosen 10 types that seemed the most interesting to us.

Kopi Luwak, is the most expensive coffee in the world, half a kilogram costs between 120$ and 600$. What makes this coffee so special is that the coffee beans come from the excrement of a cat-sized animal, called Common Palm Civet. The collected coffee beans are slightly washed and roasted just as “much” as not to destroy their flavor.
Ox penis is a true delicacy in eastern countries, while in the western countries it is dog food. Most of the times it’s consumed boiled or fried, but it can be eaten raw as well. Some say that its taste is similar to that of calamari.
Bird nests are built by swallows that stick their nest by spitting a chemical compound that hardens at air contact. This is the reason why in China this compound is the most expensive animal product and is also considered to be a delicacy. At water contact the nests become gelatinous and are often consumed as soup or dessert.

Caterpillar Fungus is a species of parasite fungus that grows on insects’ larvae. This fungus goes into the caterpillars’ body, killing and mummifying them in order to come out of the ground through their bodies in spring. In some countries this parasite fungus is consumed together with the dead caterpillar. This fungus is usually used by the Chinese and Tibetans as a remedy for tiredness and even cancer, it is said to be a good aphrodisiac. It can be also used as a soup ingredient.

Rats are a common food in South Korea, where they’re hunted and eaten daily because they’re a cheap meal and their taste is similar to chicken. It’s not just the food of the poor, in China being also served in restaurants.

Monkey brain isn’t only a disgusting type of food, but also a very risky one, because by eating it, you can get diverse deadly brain diseases. The brain is eaten raw is some parts of China. Describing how it’s served is nothing less than horrifying. The monkey is brought alive to the table, in a basket over which a wooden board with a hole in the middle is placed. Snake blood and bile are also considered being a delicacy in central Jakarta, where they are prepared for medical purposes. The preparation method is the following: the snakes head is cut off and the blood is drained in a glass bottle, the bile is added and then served as a treatment for breathing and skin problems, stomach aches and indigestions. The courage of drinking the blood that is drained from the snakes’ body is considered to be a proof of manhood.
